Familiarize yourself with riding Paraboards
Riding Paraboards is like nothing you have experienced on a product built for wheelchair users. The speed that can be achieved requires skill and practice to be able to harness the true power of the product. Just like with traditional skateboards, you might be able to hop on one and get down the street in a few minutes. But the journey to becoming a skater is about continually trying to improve.
Side Independent Throttle
The Paraboards concept was born from using off the shelf parts that could be adapted to the wheelchair. With the Paraboards Essentials brand flagship product you get something that allows new heights of speed while you ride. The current offering requires hand dexterity and cannot be readily use by quaudriplegics. But we are working on a system for future boards that could be utilized by people with limited hand function.
Quick mount/disconnect
Whereas many other products require mounting extra parts to your chair or leaving cumbersome brackets installed full-time. The Paraboard allows quickly mounting and dismounting for most chairs with no extra hardware or installation. Given the wide variety of chairs some boards will need modifications to fit your specific application needs.
Handling Characteristics
When you ride Paraboards your weight, the weight of your chair and board, are it. That means the heaviest part of the equation and using body weight is extremely important to control the paraboard. But the handling is counterintuitive. To turn right you need to put weight on the outside/left wheels and lean out of the turn to cut in. You will learn to trust your board and really hang on the edge with enough practice. But in the beginning it is best to start out slowly learning the capacity of your new board, and the rider.
Various Uses
Personally I have used my Paraboard to get a bag of groceries from the store. Meet friends in town. Go for a ride parallel to friends using personal electric transportation, bicycles, or even running friends or to run the dog.
